There are three primary ways that a website can increase its traffic ranking. One is to generate more unique visitors to the site. Another method is to generate more repeat visitors to the site. And the last is to make your web site stickier so that your visitors stay on your website and view more of your pages. I talk all the time about generating unique and repeat traffic, and now I want to take a minute to share some tips about the latter aspect of boosting your traffic ranking, which is how to keep web site traffic from leaving your site to early. The more engaged and active you keep people who visit your website, the more "sticky" it will become.

#1-It All Starts With Targeted Traffic
How you generate your traffic will have a big part to play in how much time people spend on your site. Crappy traffic that is not highly targeted toward your site content will not stick around for very long. However, highly targeted visitors who are seeking the content that you are offering will be glad to spend some time looking around your site.

#2-Good Content Always Works
Having traffic that is targeted to your site content is a start, but unless your content grabs the readers attention and holds it, people will continue to land on your site, read a few lines, and move on to another site. Good content is a powerful tool to keep web site traffic on your site. Give good information to people who are seeking it, and they will spend some time viewing many pages on your site.

#3-Use In Text Linking
Many successful bloggers and content publishers will often link to other related pages on their site within each article, page, or blog post they make. This has a couple of benefits. For one, it makes it easier for your visitors to find other related pages that they may be interested in. The search engines will also love your internal links and may give your pages a boost in rankings.

#4-Recommend Related Pages
Another similar strategy is to offer additional recommended pages at the end of each page. Many times I will read a page on a website, and then wonder where to go next. If the choice isn't obvious, I leave. At the end of each page, give your visitors several related pages that they will be interested in. This will help keep them longer.

#5-Encourage Conversations
Conversations on the web have a naturally "sticky" effect. Forums, for example, are very sticky because members will spend a lot of time one each page, and they will often view multiple pages. The conversation effect works wonders. If you can incorporate a forum or discussion group into your site, go for it. And if not, allow for comments on each page of your site. This will help you automatically build content while making your site stickier and more interesting.
