Website Traffic - The Fourth Commandment - Press Release Marketing
Website Traffic - The Fourth Commandment - Press Release MarketingWebsite Traffic - The Fourth Commandment - Press Release Marketing By Simon R Cooper Press or news releases are an underrated method for generating highly targeted internet traffic and this is why. Press release distribution sites often carry a high Page Rank and are seen as authority sites by the search engines. You are not only allowed to directly promote your products and services but you are encouraged to do so. News releases are normally syndicated and this provides the opportunity for your news to be picked up by various agencies such as Google News. When this happens, your website traffic is likely to go into overdrive. And even if your press release is not picked up by one of the news agencies, it will still provide your site with valuable, high quality backlinks and help to improve your search engine ranking. Given these benefits it begs the question, "Why do people not spend more time marketing their online businesses through the medium of press releases?" I believe it is a combination of a lack of awareness of the power of news releases combined with a lack of knowledge about how to write one. This latter point can be easily remedied. A good press release begins with a compelling title (think newspaper headlines). It then has a 2 or 3 sentence summary of what the press release is about. This is then followed by the press release itself which should be around 350 to 500 words long. The message delivered can be directly about your website, an aspect of your business or a product or service you are promoting. While delivering this message, you should try to write from the reader's point of view and in particular, focus on how they might be able to benefit from what you are writing about. The next consideration is whether to mass distribute your news release using automation software or alternatively, to manually submit it to a small number of high Page Rank sites. I would suggest the latter. I would also encourage you to source sites that allow you to include at least one link back to your site in the press release body as well as in the resource box. This means that if your press release is picked up and published by the major news agencies, a link back to your site will be included. It really is as simple as that. Some people would argue that it is actually easier to write and distribute a press release as opposed to an article. While I think that debate is for another day, I do strongly believe that good website marketing should include both regular articles and regular press releases. This will help improve your search engine ranking but will also deliver direct, targeted website traffic.
