Online Traffic to Your Business - Get Discovered Locally

With everyone claiming they are the best online marketing company, it is really tough to differentiate who is legit. Some companies charge $2,000 a month for "SEO" (Search Engine Optimization) and claim they can get you on the first page results of Google (eventually).

Why waste your money on the hopes of being number one on Google in a year (hopefully), when you can get Discovered Locally in a month (sometimes less)? I am not saying you should not work with an SEO marketing company, I just feel that if you have a limited budget, there might be an easier or cheaper solution for you.

Here are few steps you can personally take to get yourself listed on most of the major search engines and some directories, which will help increase your business traffic:

1. Figure out what search engines you would like to be found on. Google of course gets the most online search traffic and has a business center that you can use. Yahoo and Bing are also good places to have your company listed.

2. Do your research. Make sure you are targeting the proper keywords and phrases for your company. Just because you are now listed online, does not mean you will be found for the proper keywords.

3. Fill out the website forms in full. Search Engines have a business center that asks you to not only fill out your business name, address and phone number, but also descriptions about your business and some keywords you would like to be found under. It is important or you to try to fill this out properly the first time, but if you are planning to properly manage your listings and directories, then you will be tweaking with your keywords on a regular basis.

4. Get listed in directories. The more places you can have your company found, the better. Put your company information on directories that have high search traffic and will link back to your site. You may not always get direct traffic from these listings, but the links could help with your organic listings.

All of the steps listed above are not hard to do, but do take some time. There are companies out there right now who can do this for you at a reasonably low cost. There is no need to spend thousands of dollars, but of course some money will need to be invested. The opportunity cost of finding a good, reasonably priced company to do this properly and having you spend your time focusing on your business is very valuable.
