Does video marketing really work? Is it really worth the effort? After all, you have to have a camera and a media encoding toll that enables you to convert your videos into a flash format. That's gonna cost you time and money.

In my opinion, video marketing is one of the most useful approach is to generate publicity. Some people believe that some publicity is better than none and therefore latch onto the video marketing fad. But is it really just a fad? Personally, the use of video is primarily for entertainment at the moment. Not that many people have used online video to bring very serious messages across. However, that is the nature of the Internet as we know it today. Frivolous that posts are getting a high number of viewers, sensational and sexually related posts are also being lauded. How in the world do you deal with an Internet audience that is so frivolous? Heck, is likely that they will even ignore this article!

I think it calls for a creative balance. In order for an individual to get a higher volume of video traffic on the web site that they want to market, they really have to sit down and cracked the brains to come up with a creative marketing angle utilizing video. It's not so simple just putting out content from video because it's not the kind of stuff that people are looking for and the moments. After all, it's true that we are limited by our time. Just watch TV for instance. Do you expect commercial breaks to be an hour-long? In other words, what you're doing on YouTube and any other video submission site is really going to be taken as a commercial.

Now, until you understand that only people who know you well enough to even want to watch any of your content videos, you won't get very much traffic off from video marketing. the basic principle is this: you need to have their attention, interest, and permission in order for your viewers to decide that you are a channel to tune into. It also means that you need to be attractive enough in some way that interests them in order for you to sustain their attention. Gone are the days where attention is the only thing that you pay attention to (OK, that sounded awkward). what you really need to do is to funnel your audience to realizing why they have to come back and tune in to your channel. It's really that simple.

Everything stems from how credible your viewers perceive you to be. If you want to have an additional head start, you might actually want to model after some of the most successful videos which receive a high number of page views.

What I've noticed of the following characteristics:

  1. Popular videos carry an emotion that is either negative or positive, but exceptional in intensity.
  2. Popular videos tend to have a cult following. the moment one is successful, the rest of them become equally successful.
  3. Popular videos get ripped off. You'll see a lot of people copying that video and placing their own URLs over this video.
  4. Popular videos are less content based and more entertainment based.
  5. Social elements make popular videos even more popular. If you utilize social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace, you can actually generate a much higher viewership.

Given these, you now need the tools to be able to create your videos. The first thing I'd recommend for you is Camtasia Studio. If you are using a digital camera that can record in AVI format, all you need to do is utilize Camtasia as encoder to convert the AVI file into FLV file. Do take note, that YouTube does not accept videos above ten minutes as a general rule. the next thing I recommend for you is to utilize a digital camera such as FujiFilm FinePix f40 or any model above this. It's great, you can pop in a 2GB SD card and it can record up to 29 minutes of uncompressed video! That's more than enough for your video marketing needs.

In conclusion, video marketing works but it tends to work better for certain types of niches compared with others. You also need a little bit more creativity before you can really make video marketing a real tangible pillar for your web traffic.
